ROMP with Pi Zeta

I had such a great time at the Rush Our Moms Party (ROMP) potluck on August 19th that I forgot about taking photos until we were leaving Adelphi Commons! If you haven’t attended one of these, the purpose is to allow the Pi Zetas to practice their recruitment skills on their moms and alums. The large room hummed with conversation, the girls were decked out according to one of the outfit requirements this year, and it was great to see some of the moms who had attended past ROMPs. As we potential “recruits” filed in, we were met by smiling Pi Zeta Delta Zetas singing and clapping. It was scary and at the same time exhilarating! What an outstanding group of young women. I hope you will help with or at least attend the ice cream social in October and the taco-salad buffet next March so you have a chance to interact with them. Some were nervous but most were excited about gettiing new sisters for Delta Zeta. And all in all, they did a great job. I would be honored and thrilled to be asked to become a Pi Zeta.

Beware of Window Washing

The best laid plans can go astray. We made it to Seattle, visited relatives, and packed up the pump organ, and left for Idaho. Ray was going to drop me off in Couer d'Alene, Idaho for a mini reunion with some high school friends. On the way, we stopped to get gas in Cle Elem, WA. I thought that I would be helpful and wash the truck windshield while Ray went to the bathroom. When I went to return the squeegee, I tripped on the curbing by the gas pump. I fell, skinned my knees, broke the fibula in my left ankle, and tore the ligaments. After 5 hours in the ER, we were able to travel again. I had crutches which I did not handle well, so we ended up getting a wheelchair. This also ended my trip to see my high school friends. The moral of this story is DON'T DO WINDOWS! Ray & I are headed home and should get home sometime Friday. I'm hoping this won't interfere too much with our Alaska cruise scheduled for Sept.11-18.

A Note from Susan

I can't believe I've been back in Louisiana 6 mths already! It's a little weird, I have to admit. It has its pros and cons. I do miss AZ. I try to keep up with you guys as much as I can. Thanks for keeping me on the list. I haven't gotten to an Alum chapter here yet :-(

A note from Jane...

In reading the "DeZert Alum Notes" today, I was surprised and overwhelmed to see that our alum chapter will be donating a thousand dollars to the Bernice Hutchinson Gale Scholarship.

This scholarship means so much to me. I've been working to build it back up to where DZ will be able to give it out again, but it has been going slowly. The scholarship needs to be self-sustaining, so that awarding it won't reduce the principle. Your donation will give a huge boost to that goal.

Being a DZ has meant so much in my life and it meant even more in my mother's life. It is important to me that my mother will be remembered for all the great things she did in her college days, as an alum, and in all the years she served on National Council.

Thank you again. I want you to know how much this means to me.

With DZ Love,
Jane Prall

Move in Day at Adelphi

On August 14th, ASU students moved back in for the fall semester. The Phoenix Alumnae Chapter provided "Welcome Back!" baskets for the Delta Zetas living in the chapter rooms at Adelphi Commons. Ann Santos, Randie Boldra, Mary Pat Pepping, and Mary Peterson assembled the kits, which included toilet tissue, Kleenex, bottled water, microwave popcorn, energy bars, hand sanitizer, highlighters, Q-tips, makeup samples, etc. It was fun to hear the excited greetings as the girls arrived! Ah, those were the days...

Rescued and in Need of a Home

Phoenix alum Mary Pat and Roger Pepping have rescued four amazing adult cats from a harsh and uncertain life in an alley. However, Fluffy, their original cat, doesn't like her new housemates, so Lily, Lucy, Misty, and Monty (the only male) need a loving home so Fluffy doesn't have the stress of sharing Rog and Mary Pat!
All are spayed/neutered. Lily is a small, sweet, shy young lady who probably can do well on her own, although she gets along with the others. Lucy is an orange and white youngster (about a year old) who is playful and friendly. Misty is a white, mature female who also is loving and social. Monty is a
gorgeous light cream-colored tabby with white markings. The three girls are short-haired, and Monty is medium. They get along well together, but two of the girls are very close and probably should be in the same home.
If you can help, or for more information, please contact Mary Pat ASAP. They are in Tempe, near ASU. Although their house is filled with love, it is overflowing with five cats!

Bid on someone's travel souvenir in a silent auction (optional). Learn about the Delta Zeta Museum. Pick up your Founders Day notes. Lots to do, so plan to be there!

Hope you all are collecting travel-size toiletries and gently-used or new handbags for our philanthropy project! Bring them to the September or October meetings.

PLUS, we soon will be announcing details for a “spa” drawing. Information will be in a separate e-mail in the next few days. (It’s an offer you can’t refuse!)

And remember: Dues are increasing after September 1st, so send yours in right away! Let me know if you need the form to send with your payment.
