"Nacho" Ordinary Luncheon!

Hola! Our annual recognition of this year's Pi Zeta graduates is just ahead. Hope your calendar includes our "fiesta!"

In addition to our collegiate guests, special attendees will include a student and teacher from the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf. This facility has been the beneficiary of our major philanthropy effort for about three decades, as our alum chapter provides scholarships for one or two of their seniors going on to school. So come and meet all these lovely people at Aunt Chilada's Mexican Restaurant on Dreamy Draw in Phoenix, Saturday, April 21, at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $20, inclusive, and you can pay at the door. RSVP to Ann Santos by April 13.

If you can't attend, you can help out by sponsoring a lunch for one of our Pi Zeta sisters. There are 29 this year, and our treasury would greatly appreciate your support! Just let Ann know you will contribute to this cause.

Sisters At Work

  • DZ alum Katherine Erwin recently became general manager at Abercrombie & Fitch. (Congratulations and best wishes for much success!)
  • Kara Kissell is Director of Community Outreach for Great Hearts Academies.
  • Yvonne Manfredo is an account executive at Cox Media.
  • Ann Santos is assistant editor for the magazines published by the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
  • Lorna Green is principal at a school for youths with special needs.
What's YOUR job?

A Visit to the Hoover Dam

My niece Emily is visiting from Wisconsin, and we had to try our luck in Vegas! On the way home to Phoenix, we stopped to view Hoover Dam. What a photo op! So glad Emily spent her spring break with her old aunt!

Winter Wonderland

Cathy Handen Sewel (front row, center) recently was the guest of honor at a baby shower given by her Kent State DZ sisters. She took a red-eye flight to Cleveland for a festive weekend. "It was great to have the opportunity to catch up with these ladies - unfortunately I went there in the midst of a snow storm so a bunch of the ladies that RSVP'ed weren't able to make it due to weather road conditions. It was a little ironic because the theme of the shower was "Winter Wonderland". Aside from the snow storm I had a wonderful time and as always, it went by way too fast."

We Need You!

Ladies, we are desperate for help with the taco salad buffet for the Pi Zetas on March 26th. It will take only a couple of hours, so if you can help, PLEASE contact Ann Haggerty or Ann Santos immediately

Mamma Mia!

I feel like I'm in Venice, but the only Italy in sight is at Epcot! Here at Walt Disney World, I've seen lots and lots of girls wearing T-shirts reading "I Love Pink," but they need to add "and green" to be Delta Zetas! We have concluded that we should have done some training for all this walking. We are tired but it's good exercise. (Not that we aren't relaxing, too!)

Happy Valentines Day 2012

Sister Update

Well this year is not starting out much better than last. We are moving in two weeks due to a short sale, and I just had surgery for a herniated disc. Hopefully I will make the luncheon in April.

Happy Valentines Day Pi Zeta!

Our Pi Zeta sisters at ASU know we think the world of them, especially with these valentine "pencil "dogs to remind them! The accordion-folded cards have four different fitting messages, and a valentine-motif pencil is threaded through each one. A turtle-shaped balloon stands guard.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Like Golf?

This service project turns into money! Plus, there's free stuff!

A major event coming up very soon is the WM Phoenix Open golf tournament on January 30--February 5. You and your friends and family members who volunteer on behalf of Delta Zeta can attend the event all week for free by working just one shift each in a concession stand. You also will have special reserved parking and discounts on select merchandise.

Your hours are credited to Phoenix Panhellenic, with money going for scholarships to women attending Arizona schools. Numerous Della Zetas have benefited through the years. But we definitely need your help to attain our volunteer quota, so please sign up today at www.PhoenixOpenvolunteers.com. Help is most needed on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. You can request to work with your friends and family.

Watch Out Ann!

Phoenix alum Ann Santos and her cousin Jerry Davis from Texas enjoyed two trips to this recently opened westside restaurant during his visit to Phoenix over the holidays. It has the world's best onion rings---a real deal during happy hour! Phil Santos snapped the photo. Jerry has been a long-distance member of Team Delta Zeta in the Phoenix Komen Race for the Cure, participating in the Sleep-In category for two years.

Our Pi Zeta sister Karla Rasmusson graduated from ASU on December 16 with a BA in Psychology. A brunch reception for her followed the ceremony. Congratulations, Karla!

Pi Zeta gets a little help surviving finals...

As the end of the semester drew near, our Pi Zeta sisters were preparing for final exams. To ease them through this stressful time, the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter provided "Finals Survival Kits" filled with useful items. The girls' parents were invited to purchase them for their daughters, Deb Willey filled the orders and delivered them. Many thanks to all the alums who donated Starbucks cards, etc. and/or $$$ for this project. Proceeds benefit the alum chapter's philanthropy fund.

On December 3, Denise Adams hosted the chapter's third annual "Teddy Bear Tea" and holiday party. Attendees brought 58 teddy bears of various sizes for local firemen to give to children in emergency situations. A new activity this year was Santa's Bazaar, a collection of craft items and baked goods donated by the alums. Proceeds benefited the philanthropy fund. Ann Haggerty received a "golden bear" award for the best holiday hat. A ten-year member award was given to Paige Pawlikow.

Happy holidays and all best wishes for a terrific New Year from all of us in the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter!
